Owners Ester and Judith Goelkel DVM
In 2000, the Goelkel family sold their breeding farm in Europe, and relocated to Dutchess County, New York, 1 ½ hours north of NYC. They had fallen in love with historic Winley Farm, 155 acres of lush paddocks and wooded areas in Millbrook, New York. Construction was immediately begun on the new barn complex, which was completed in 2002.
Winley Farm concentrates on one of the best sport horse bloodlines in the world for its breeding program: The Holsteiner Breed. In 2002 and 2003 four approved Holsteiner mares (Kassina, Leni I, Lady U and Hollunder II) were purchased to be the foundation broodmares for what we hope will prove to be one of the finest Holsteiner sport horse breeding farms in the country. The first two Holsteiner foals (Tiamo, Caspar) born at Winley Farm in the spring of 2003 were both awarded “premium” status by the American Holsteiner Horse Association, a great start!
Winley Farm purchased four additional Holsteiner foals in Germany in 2003, three fillies (Tassina, Tanamera, Tabaluga) and a colt (Classic Edition), which were brought to the farm as yearlings in the spring of 2004. Other Holsteiners purchased in Germany and imported to Winley Farm in 2003 include a 1997 gelding (Carinio), a 1998 filly (Lamp Light), a 1999 gelding (Locando), and two 2001 colts (Caligo and Balou de Capitol). With this group in place, Winley Farm is ready to pursue excellence in the show ring as well as the breeding shed.
In December of 2005, the broodmares and some of the babies were relocated to Germany to continue the breeding program on home ground. Classic H is now also a broodmare and looking forward to her retirement. Carvallo is continuing to compete in Germany. The focus of Winley Farm has now shifted to the training and showing of our excellent bloodstock.
Winley Farm is clearly more than land and horses, it is a team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about their work. Meet the Winley Farm team.
